I am currently working on a motion design project and we have the need to combine 3d and graphics. I have been using After Effects for many years so I am quite comfortable in that environment. I have recently picked up nuke and I am super impressed with the workflow and the general idea behind Nuke. The node based channel system together with a solid 3d environment is really something. One big drawback if you want to use nuke in motion graphics is that you cannot import vector graphics like .eps or .ai. This is kind of a big deal. So I think the main part of the job will be done in AE. The main drawback in AE is that the “3d” capabilities is really poor. You can do nice looking stuff, but the workflow and the interaction with the 3d is not good. There is also not possible to import 3d models. You can go through PS and import an obj file but this is really not ideal. So I want better 3d in AE and vector image import in Nuke !
I talked with support at the foundry today and asked if they are planning import of vector images. As far as he knew, there are not any plans to do this. So it is up to us to express this need ! He wrote a feature request on my behalf so that was nice. If enough people ask for this and Nuke get more used in motion graphics we will probably gt this feature.
