Art in Luleå – Summer 2011
This is some photos I took in Luleå, Sweden this summer. The art was part of an exhibition at “Kulturens hus”. I really liked the artwork called “total equality”. The installation was made by Monika Zaltauskaite and the text presenting the artwork reads:
We all have our ways of socially “dressing up” in predestined uniforms of social habits, behavior and ethical dogmas.
When I saw the artwork it made me think of destiny, of how our genes aswell as the environment we grew up in influences the choices we make in our lives. The old question of the existence of a free will. Are we born into a costume that we (are forced to) wear for the rest of our lives or can we design our own ? I think we are born with some material for our costume and some material we find along the way. How we put these parts together is up to us, how brave we are, how open minded, what we think is beautiful. But the interesting question if you look at it in this way is what shapes our opinion of how a beautiful costume looks like ? Genes, social environment or are there something more ? Again, does free will exist ?
