Camera Raw 6.2 – note to self

Tonal adjustment

When using the camera raw 6.2 to adjust the tone here are some notes on what the function does.

Exposure:

Recovery: Moves the highlight parts of the image to retrieve overexposured areas.

Fill light: Fills in the shadow levels like a fill flash. It moves the shadow parts towards white.

Blacks: Moves only the shadow part of the histogram. To introduce more darker tones to the image increase the blacks value.

Brightness: Moves the midtones. Similar to gamma.

Contrast: Spreads the values apart and thus introduces more contrast to the image

Keyboard shortcuts

The keyboard shortcut to change brush size is [ or ] and the feather is shift + [ or ]. Since I am a swede and living in sweden I consequently got a swedish keyboard to be able to write the å, ä and ö letter of the swedish alphabet. The bracket key is not placed on the same place on an english keyboard as a swedish and it drove me a little crazy at first, since I couldn´t get the shortcut to work. To use the brush size shortcut on a swedish keyboard press “å” key for “[" and the key to the right of the "å" key to type "]“.

Reset the changes made

Press alt in camera raw to switch the cancel button to a reset button.

theBot: Modeling – Rigging – Animation – Rendering – Compositing WIP

This is a project where I try out rendering and more advanced rigging ideas. I´m also planning to benchmark VRay and Mental Ray.

the first test animation of the bot. Added some sfx and music. Also started adding som 2d elements like dust and debri.

Started adding detail geometry. I will use hair dynaimcs to add animation to the hoses.

A test render from my first animation test of the bot rig. I did a rough compose in afx.

I modeled the spherical shell of the character. I used NURBS in Maya. I have always been skeptical to the nurbs tool in Maya, but when I used them in 2011 they felt more robust then before. Of course you cannot compare them to the nurbs tool in a product like studio tools, but still.

I used the 3d paint tool to refine my skecth of  the body. I later use this as a reference for modeling the high rez model of the body.

Ttest renderings that I am doing while modeling. The pink parts is temporary poly meshes that I re-model in higher resolution.

International Animation Day

The 30:th of October at Hagabion in Göteborg the International Animation Day will be celebrated. The event is organized by Animation i Väst.

International Animation Day (IAD)

Following the initiative idea of former ASIFA President Abi Feijo, ASIFA is celebrating animation once a year, on 28th october. The project is perfectly co-ordinated by Juliette Crochu (AFCA / ASIFA France), the number of participating countries is increasing every year. IAD is also a unique occasion to collaborate also with non-ASIFA-groups, the day simply brings animation enthusiats from all countries and nationalities together.
