Petbot
This is an upcomming project. More to come.

In this post I will show how the eyes of the character below was set up. The aim was to create a simple animation rig that was fast and simple to use. The “cartoon eye rig” is based on a ramp texture that is controlled by a few attributes. The texture is aplied to a simple nurbs sphere. In the video below I explain how you can use the mel script I wrote to create this setup. At the end of the post you will find the script available for download. cheers !

After working together in several projects, Petfactory and Cliff Design have decided to take things one step further. Starting Monday the 18:th of October we are sharing work space at Kaserntorget 6. Note that this is not an acquirement, nor a fusion. Petfactory and Cliff Design will still work as separate companies. We are simply two creative forces with mutual design values looking for synergies – a strategic match with great potential! For our clients this means that we will extend our offer and strengthen our position as creative partners within the design arena.
My father is really into blues music. He has had a cd by JJ Cale called naturally for as long as I can remember. The cover have always appealed to me and I think that it is one of the best album covers I know. Recently, thanks to Spotify, I´ve started to listen through Cales long list of songs. It´s a mixture of blues, rockabilly, country, and jazz. Here is the super brilliant album art !

A few days ago I had my good friends Johno and Mad over for an evening of gaming. We downloaded “Little Big Planet” to my PS 3. If you like platform, action, puzzle games I guarentee you will like this! The graphic style is awesome !. To me the style feels really new and fresh, and you can really “feel” the sensation of the materials like paper, fabric, sponge and whathaveyou with you fingers. And the little figures, the sackpersons, that you play really warms your hart. I havn´t played the whole game yet, but the few levels that I tried was fun.
In this post I test how to intersect lines. The aim was to learn how you get the intersection point (x and y coordinate ) of two intersecting lines. This flash movie builds on a number of vector math functions. The most important principles are:
You can drag the slider below to generate some new lines to intersect.
My dear old school, where I studied industrial and Interaction design, has as of the autumn of 2009 got a new rector.
Anna Valtonen, Head of Design Research & Foresight at Nokia in Helsinki, Finland, has been appointed as the new rector of Umeå Institute of Design at Umeå University and will succeed Bengt Palmgren, the current rector, during the autumn of 2009.
Anna Valtonen was born in 1974 in Helsinki, Finland and she holds a doctorate in industrial design. She is board member of the University of Art and Design in Helsinki, member of the Finnish-Swedish Industrial Design Academy and has until recently sat on the board of the Swedish National Research School of Design. During 2000-2004, she has been a board member of The Finnish Association of Industrial Designers, TKO. Since 2007, she has been one of seven members of the Board at Aalto University, a unique merger of three Finnish universities – the Helsinki School of Economics, the University of Art and Design, and the Helsinki University of Technology. She has been active as a researcher at the Department of Strategic and Industrial Design at the University of Art and Design, Helsinki and visiting professor in the Department of Management at ESSEC Business School Paris, France. The position as rector at the Umeå Institute of Design at Umeå University also includes a significant focus on research.
Her experience and network of contacts will be very important for Umeå University’s investment in the new Umeå Arts Campus and everybody hopes that she will further strengthen the international status of Umeå institute of Design.
Finally 3d in the browser using flash ! I´ve wanted to be able to do interactive 3d for a long time. And since I am really not a programmer more like an artist with an interrest in what scripting helps you create, the papervision 3D classes is just awesome. It is an open source project with classes to flash and actionscript 3. It blends really well with the rest of the scripting approach in as 3 and if you are a somewhat ok as3 scripter learning the basics of papervision is really simple. The really cool thing is that it allows you to create 3d models in your favourite 3d app, in may case Maya of course ;p, and in an easy way incorporate them in to flash. I use the open source openCollada exporter to Maya to export the DAE models. It supports animation with joints and skinweights !
